Hypercom Brings Wireless Payment Terminals to the Arizona
State Fair,
Enabling Ride Tickets to be Purchased by Credit & Debit Card at
All Booths
Company Teams with Element Payment Services & Apriva to Provide
Complete Wireless Solution
Phoenix, AZ, October 0, 2006 -- Hypercom Corporation
(NYSE: HYC) today announced that its wireless payment technology will
enable 2006 Arizona State Fair visitors to pay for rides with credit
and debit cards at all ticket booths on the midway, extending electronic
payments to areas that cannot be reached with wired connectivity and
also allowing the fair to accept debit cards for the first time. The
use of Hypercom’s Optimum M2100 wireless payment terminals at
the ticket booths will eliminate the need for attendees to carry cash
to buy ride tickets or wristbands.
The wireless terminals are expected to speed lines, increase ticket
sales, minimize cash handling and enhance guest convenience at the
fair, which opens in Phoenix on October 13 and runs through November
5 (closed Mondays). The devices will also be used at future Arizona
State Fairs as well as at other fairgrounds events that previously
have not accepted credit card payments, including the Maricopa County
Fall Beautiful Home & Landscape Show, Crossroads of the West Gun
Show, Way Out West Bird Expo and Ter-Mark Gun Show.
“Taking credit cards for rides has always been a challenge because
we move the ticket booths regularly to accommodate different fair
layouts, so installing the cables required to carry the transactions
over a wired connection for each event has been impractical as well
as expensive. In addition, we have never been able to accept debit
cards,” said Kristi Walsh, Marketing Director for the Arizona
State Fair. “With these wireless payment terminals from Hypercom,
we can offer both credit and debit card payments while also maintaining
flexibility in ticket booth and attraction placement to continually
improve the guest experience.”
The terminals were sold and placed by Element Payment Services, a
provider of point-of-sale equipment and payment solutions to more
than 30,000 merchants around the country. All transactions will be
routed to the credit card processor through gateways provided by Apriva,
a wireless solution provider whose wireless point-of-sale services
enable merchants to process financial transactions from any location
using major credit card processors. Hypercom, Element and Apriva are
all based in Arizona.
The Hypercom Optimum M2100 wireless terminal is a compact, high-speed,
battery-operated device that facilitates fast, secure point-of-sale
transactions for restaurants, delivery services, car rental companies,
sports stadiums, medical facilities, kiosks and other businesses that
require non-stationary payment systems. Its small form factor will
enable easy placement in the tight booth space.
